How Do I Apply to Accept Benefits?
- Apply to accept EBT by registering for a USDA eAuthentication account: This gives you access to the online application. You must have a valid email address. When you are approved to accept EBT payments, your approval and FNS number will be sent to this email address.
- Collect the following documents and details: Owner/Partner/Officer/Member Information: Full names, home addresses, and Social Security Numbers for all individuals associated with the business. Sales Information:
Provide estimated or actual sales for each item category in your store, including tobacco, lottery, alcohol, etc. Product Details:
Include information on categories, variety, and stocking levels of food items available in your store. Banking Information:
Identify the account where you want your SNAP deposits to be directed. EBT Processor Contact:
Collect contact details for your EBT processor, including the provider’s name, phone number, address, and website. - Go to USDA Website and Click “Sign In” to Complete Your Application: You have up to 30 days to complete the application once you apply to accept EBT payments in your store, so you can stop & return to the application as much as you need to.
- Check the Status of Your Application: While you’re waiting to receive your approval email and FNS number, you can check the status of your application.
What are the requirements to Accept EBT?
To become a SNAP retailer, a store must meet one of the following requirements:
Criterion A
Staple food inventory
To meet this requirement, a store must have a minimum of 36 staple food items that meet the following conditions:
- Three varieties in each of the four staple food categories.
- Three stocking units for each of the three varieties.
- One perishable variety in two of the staple food categories
Or
Criterion B
Staple food sales
To meet this requirement, a store’s staple foods must equal more than half (be greater than 50%) of a store’s total gross retail sales.
